Paul Schönewald launched his gallery in 1992. From Krefeld and later from Xanten he developed a very personal program specialized in blue chip artists of German and American Post-War and Contemporary Art such as Josef Albers, Carl Andre, Georg Baselitz, Bernd and Hilla Becher, John Chamberlain, Gotthard Graubner, Donald Judd, Yayoi Kusama, Agnes Martin, Blinky Palermo, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, Thomas Schütte, Rosemarie Trockel and Cy Twombly.

In 2006 SCHÖNEWALD moved into a former hydraulic factory in Düsseldorf, which was converted into a gallery space by Selldorf Architects, New York. For many years Paul Schönewald has supervised and developed major collections domestically and abroad. With his gallery he regularly takes part in Art Cologne, Cologne and Frieze Masters, London.

Paul Schönewald also continues to support new talents which create encyclopedic surprises in the exhibition space and complete the gallery’s portfolio. For more information on our primary artists such as Karin Kneffel, Wilhelm Mundt and Andreas Schmitten, please click here.
