Biography

Otto Boll (*born in 1952 in Issum/Geldern) studied from 1975 to 1980 at the department for Art education Münster and at the Academy of Fine Art Dusseldorf with Professor Ernst Hermanns. In 1980 he receives the Caspar-von-Zumbusch-Award. From 1981 to 1982 he gets the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff-Scholarship. In 1981 he is awarded with the Prize of the Kulturkreis im Bundesverband der deutschen Industrie (BDI), receives the Award of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation and is winner of the city of Recklinghausens’s art prize ‘junger westen’ In 1990 follows the Piepenbrock-Award for sculpture.

The artist’s signature sculptures, delicate creations crafted from darkened metal, seem to effortlessly float within space. Their work beckons observers to engage uniquely with these linear sculptures, which range from slender structures to a breathtaking thinness that teeters on the brink of vanishing. Otto Boll’s works are kept in several well-known private and public collections, among others, in the collection of the Deutsche Bank and the collection of the Federal Republic of Germany. Throughout his career, the sculptor has been the recipient of prestigious German awards and grants.
